David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach Play the Doerfler Theater at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center on Sunday October 26

todayOctober 15, 2025

Picture David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach side-by-side on the stage.  David holds a Pogreba guitar, made by the man who built the cannon for Hunter S. Thompson to be shot out of.  Bob checks out his selection of harmonicas and adjusts his 1940s RCA microphone.  They’re calm, poised and ready to play.  This will be the scene at 7 pm on October 26 when KYAQ 91.7FM brings David and Bob to the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center’s lovely  Doerfler Theater on the Bay in Newport.  Tickets are available at www.kyaq.org for $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

David Jacobs-Strain is a fierce slide guitar player, and a song poet from Eugene. He’s known for both his virtuosity and spirit of emotional abandon; his live show moves from humorous, subversive blues, to delicate balladry, and then swings back to swampy rock and roll.  He has wowed audiences at Merlefest, The Telluride Blues Festival, The Philadelphia Folk Festival,  Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Bumbershoot, the Oregon Country Fair, and Blues to Bop in Switzerland. On the road, he’s shared the stage with Lucinda Williams, Boz Scaggs (more than 60 shows), Etta James, The Doobie Brothers, George Thorogood, Robert Earle Keen, Todd Snider, Taj Mahal, Janis Ian, Tommy Emmanuel, Bob Weir, T-Bone Burnett, and Del McCoury.

Bob Beach hails from Philadelphia where he has been making music on the harmonica and flute for over 40 years.  He plays harmonica with a calm fierceness, swaggering into a solo that makes you wonder what just happened and how such a tiny instrument could possibly sound that haunting.  He has recorded and performed with several acts including Ollabelle, Langhorne Slim, The Avett Brothers, Pat Wictor, Beaucoup Blue, and Fruit.

Together, these men are a multigenerational, bi-coastal duo who since 2010 have traveled from the left to the right coasts playing 70 to 100 shows and festivals a year.  Those include the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Juan de Fuca, Strawberry Festival, Redding Roots, Bear Creek and Kate Wolf and the Swannanoa gathering.

As Tom Paxton said, “David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach blew me away last summer at Swannanoa. As we say at home, they ‘knocked my hat in the creek’.  I can’t envision the audience that could fail to take to them from the first chord to the last. Hear them yourself as soon as you can”.  Tickets are available at www.KYAQ.org.  For more information, music and videos, go to https://www.davidjacob-strain.com.
